Meet the Rarebirds Interiors team — Kelly, Sean, and Nerissa lead our Auckland-based interior design studio with a shared love for expressive, material-led interiors. From project coordination to concept design and delivery, our team works collaboratively to bring each client's vision to life.

The Rarebirds Interiors team, based in Auckland, New Zealand, creates and delivers original, emotive spaces that balance functionality, beauty and are at times daringly different.

KELLY GAMMIE

Kelly studied Fine Arts, Fashion and Interior Design in Australia and Italy which has had a strong influence on her design aesthetic, bringing a broad knowledge of art, design & textiles to every Rarebirds’ project. She is closely involved in projects from inception to completion.

Conceptually focused and pragmatic, Kelly’s belief of “Be bold, be brave and be practical” helps craft creative individuality for all our clients.

Biophilic integrity is an essential element to her personal design ethos, and Kelly is constantly searching to provide an interaction with natural elements to all Rarebirds project's.

Kelly regularly provides various seminars on design and renovation at the Auckland Home Show and provides trade representation in Residential Interior Design to UNITEC.

SEAN MONK

Principle & Lead Technical Designer

Sean spent his early years in Europe which has influenced his love of all things design, and has certainly influenced his fascination with the interaction between materiality and spatial form.

Qualifications from DACNZ and many years of design experience with high end residential interiors, brings solid design integrity to Rarebirds.

Sean possesses an exceptional knowledge of kitchen design, combined with his ability as an excellent verbal communicator, ensures design detail clarity to all Rarebirds projects.

Sean’s design work has featured in magazines and on Grand Designs New Zealand.

NERISSA SOWERBY

Nerissa comes from the fashion industry with many years of production management experience. With an incredible eye for detail, Nerissa is always fastidiously organized. She is an excellent communicator both verbally and through rigorous documentation and takes on the “wrangling” role at Rarebirds.

Nerissa is the ever-flowing conduit between, design team, client and site. Her expert co-ordination of sub consultants, trade teams and suppliers ensures the design integrity is maintained throughout the all stages of project execution.

When not wrangling, Nerissa loves to spend her time sculpting and walking the west coast of Auckland.
