Interior Design, Custom Fabrication, Furnishing and Project Co-Ordination

  • The design team introduced layers of texture and colour to the modern floor plan and appointments of the recently constructed property in a stunning Auckland location.

Often developers will understand how a family uses their home to ensure the functionality is on point, but it takes a team of experienced interior designers such as Rarebirds to introduce cleverly layered textures of materiality and interior furnishings to create a home that a family feels emotionally connected to.

The Rarebirds design team started with introducing warm-toned looped Bremworth carpet to the bedroom level to complement and soften the concrete and timber flooring. Textured Casamance wallpaper and swathes of full-height, roughly woven sheer drapes enhance a sense of softness needed to counterbalance the home’s high gib walls.

An Élitis feature mural to the open-plan living room connects the indoor space to the lush greenery of the garden, elevating the indoor–outdoor connection. The Oblure feature light from Good Form continues the contemporary feel of the project, adding aesthetic interest to an empty space.

Custom oak cabinetry in the master bedroom for extra wardrobe storage forms an elegant headboard finished in Senca grasscloth, transforming a large vacuous bedroom into a personalized master suite. Panel detailing is replicated in the home office on a full-wall desk and shelving — a beautiful backdrop to the dual-purpose kids’ media space.

The paneling detail painted Resene Caraway was also layered into the kitchen area, relieving the island and pantry walls of their blandness. Textural rugs and custom Rarebirds Interiors headboards, along with cushioning and well-considered objects and additional furniture, have ensured that this family home is both aesthetically beautiful as well as functional.

Our clients’ excitement at the transformation of their spaces from nice but boring to layered living was a wonderful experience that our designers and on-site trades team shared. Well-considered design will absolutely elevate a house or property into a home.
