was the initial design brief, and the well-considered design outcome for the renovation of this central Auckland family home.
Understanding our client’s need to create functional spaces while evoking a sense of intimacy within this large five-bedroom property was an essential element of Rarebirds Interiors’ collaborative design process. The introduction of better flow to the spatial planning within the centrally located kitchen and living space enabled our design team to achieve increased functionality and feature a beautifully crafted stand-alone island.
Asymmetrically grooved, panelled cabinetry is finished in Aalto Paints – Console, a warm, dark green that sits exquisitely beneath a benchtop of Nahoa Sensa Granite from Cosentino. Dark brass Brunswick handles from Iver continue the urban elegance and are woven throughout the house into the scullery, bathroom vanities, and laundry. The Liebherr fridge and freezer, along with the Bosch dishwashers, are integrated behind the earthy loveliness of Fenix panels in Castoro Ottawa, ensuring endurance and functionality for this family kitchen.
The warm, earthy colour palette oscillates from strong and punchy in the kitchen, scullery, and bathrooms to a little more playful in the bedrooms, family, living, and dining spaces. Delicate, ethereal-like drapes soften the hard-edged appearance of polished concrete floors, while textured furnishings and wallpapers add to the authenticity of layering.
Continuing the design intent to craft individuality for every client, the Rarebirds Interiors team replaced the wide external soffits and extra-height kitchen ceiling with Dryden – Ironsand-stained, tongue-and-groove timber panels. This provided not only continuity between the interior and exterior spaces, but also added to the new textural integrity of the home, softening the more industrial materials of its architecture.

“Natalie and I are ecstatic with how the house has turned out, the Rarebirds team have delivered a very high-quality outcome, one that we hope gets a few potential bidders excited on auction day.
Walking through the house, must compliment the teams attention to detail, not much (if anything) I can fault.
In addition, we both feel that there has been genuine care as to our best interest and discretionary effort to ensure same, this is sincerely appreciated.”
